Vera Evelyn (Taylor) Watley was born to the late Alice (Smith) and Harold Taylor in Brooklyn, New York on August 22, 1922. She was educated in the New York City school system, graduating from Girls High School; she attended Junior College, where she studied Secretarial Science. Vera spent her professional career with the Wyandanch School System, Long Island New York in the Guidance Department, where she retired.

Vera married the “Love of her life”, Ivan O. Watley on April 4, 1942. From this union one daughter, Jeanette was born. Before relocating to Myrtle Beach, The Watley’s lived in Lehigh Acres, Florida after retirement. They traveled extensively with the Kiwanis Clubs International. Vera was a Charter Member of the Nassau County (New York) chapter of Jack and Jill Inc., Past Worthy Matron of Carver Chapter #65, Wyandanch, New York, Order of the Eastern Star, Past President of the Kiwanis Ladies Auxiliary, Suffolk County (New York). She was a member of Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She became widowed in March 2018, living with her daughter, Jeanette until her demise on April 20, 2021.

Vera loved life, family, and friends; she was known for “telling it like it is”!

Vera is survived by her daughter, Jeanette; cousins, Maude (Nathanial) Nelson of NJ, Geraldine Williams of PA, Johanna Bell of PA, Alberta Matthews of Fl, Marilyn George of Fl; her two devoted caregivers; Mrs. Lorraine and Ms. Barbara, and other loving relatives, family, and friends.

 Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, April 26, 2021, at the Hillcrest Cemetery Mausoleum. Ocean View Funeral Home, Myrtle Beach Chapel is assisting the Vereen Family.
