Vermell McCray

Vermell Nance McCray the daughter of the late Alexander and Alice Nance was born on March 17,1959 in Horry County. She attended Horry County Schools class of 1977

She was employed by Horry County Schools for several years until her retirement.

She attended Cane Branch AME church and at a young age she accepted Christ. She served in may capacities and loved all she did. She was the YPD Director and with this it allowed her to work in her passion which was working with young people. Her love and dedication will always be remembered.

She meet and married the love of her life the late Burnett McCray and they spent 35 wonderful years together.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Junior, Kelly and George Nance and grandson Braxton Holmes.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted children Tiyiana (Eric)Jordan, Floretta Johnson, Burnett McCray Jr. and Bianca McCray. Her grandchildren Pvt.Nigel McCray, Tiyana and Harmoniee Rush, Makayla McCray and Baylee and BellaGrace Holmes.

Five sisters Annie(Eulice)Cummings, Lunette Sanders, Mary Cochran, Flo Singleton and Ruby Davis. One brother James Nance.

Six sister-n-laws Josephine McCray, Rev Carolyn Hemingway, Jackie Hunt, Brenda (Lonnie) Murphy, Lydia(Paul)Anderson and Denise McCray.  Two brother-n-laws Joe(Margaret)McCray and Lynn(Joann)McCray.

Friends that were more like sisters Edna, Christine, Marsha, Frankie and Rowena. And a host of sorrowful nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Vermell McCray of Conway passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021. There will be a visitation held Friday, October 1, 2021, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Ocean View Funeral Home and Beach Crematory, Conway Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Mason Temple Church of God in Christ. Interment will follow in Cane Branch Cemetery, Conway.  Ocean View Funeral Home and Beach Crematory, Conway Chapel is assisting the McCray Family.
