Mr. Weldon Gary Carr, Jr., affectionately known as Mike, beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on April 26, 2025, after a short-term illness.
Mike was born on February 7, 1957, to the late Mr. Weldon Carr, Sr., and Mrs. Mamie Goss Carr. He was the youngest son in a large, loving family and was preceded in death by ten siblings, whose memories he carried with him throughout his life.
Mike grew up in the Pee Dee Community, where he was also introduced to faith at Trinity AME Church in Georgetown, South Carolina.
He took great pride in being a student of Choppee High School’s class of 1975. In 1986, Mike met the love of his life, Anita Adams Carr, and it didn’t take long for them to realize they were meant to be. After a sweet and swift courtship, it led to their union in holy matrimony on June 20, 1987, beginning a beautiful journey together. Their love was a source of strength and happiness, and their life was enriched by three wonderful bonus children, two sons and one daughter, whom Mike loved as his own. His heart grew even fuller with the arrival of grandchildren, who brought him endless joy and laughter.
He dedicated many years of hard work to Chavis Van Storage before briefly retiring. However, his strong work ethic and passion for staying active soon led him to Crown Reef Hotel.
Mike took great pride in maintaining his family’s estate. He dedicated himself to preserving the beauty of the family’s heirloom property with care, ensuring it remained a cherished legacy for generations to come.
Mike was known for his culinary mastery, earning the well-deserved reputation as the best fish fry man in town, a title he embraced with pride. But Mike’s presence extended beyond the kitchen, he was the life of every social gathering, always dressed to impress and dancing the night away with contagious joy. His spirit was one of warmth, celebration, and a deep love for the people around him.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Anita Carr; his cherished children, Terry Adams, Erica Adams (Kenneth Durant), and Kenneth (Teresa) Adams; his adored grandchildren, Jaquez, Kamaury, Zyimear, Ka’von, Leeloomina, Kenisha, and Kenyia; two sisters, Alice Sumpter and Diane Williams; along with a host of family and dear friends.
Although he is no longer with us, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
